Anna’s favourite game - Hide and Seek!

Nearly every child I work with ends up want to play a game of hide and seek in some form! Hide and Seek is a very “attachment” based game and children love the excitement of being found!

Extra hint to make it great

for older children, hiding a “treasure” to find together with a warm message from the parent on it (e.g., post-it-note saying “we are proud of you for…”) can be an age-appropriate variation

Resources Required
safe space with good hiding places!

Best place to play
add some variety in the garden, house, or parks

best time of day
When children say “I’m bored!”

Anna’s favourite craft - Making a container for bad memories/worries

Build a secure container where children can imagine placing bad memories or worries in to get them out of their mind. You may wish to place the container in a room away from the child or outside (e.g., the shed) and help your child mentally rehearse putting these thoughts into the box and stepping away from them.

Extra hint to make it extra special

the child might like to create a “guardian” for the box so that if anything tries to “escape”, the guardian can make sure it goes back in (e.g., having a miniature tiger in front of the box or any other “protector” figure)

Resource Required
craft supplies, box, paper

Best Room to create them
away from the child’s bedroom

Simple Steps
have the child decorate the box in a way that feels safe and secure to them. They can write worries on pieces of paper and leave them inside, or just ‘imagine’ putting the thoughts in there if they are too distressing

Anna’s favourite group game - Scribble Tag

Ever played a game of chasey on paper? Try it! See who can catch each other and what scribbly art work you can make together while playing.

Simple Steps
Choose one person to be “it” to “chase” the other person. Both players leave the point of their pencil/texta on page at all times. The chaser scribbles their way towards the other person and tries to “bump” the player’s pencil, whilst the player tries to scribble away! If the chaser bumps the other player, that player is now “it” and begins to chase the other person

Resources Required
paper and pencils/textas

Extra hint to make it extra fun

change up colours so you have a vibrant work of scribble art when you are finished!!
